The SPICES Fitness Team believes in Holistic Health Fitness Training for all ages with an emphasis on promoting balanced health and wellness in all stages of life. The SPICES programs use a variety of tools and movements that encourage training which connects the body, mind, and soul. All fitness classes are created by a Certified Personal Trainer and Kinesiologist, Bernadette Nikkari, and are designed safely to include compound and multi-directional movements which promote the use of multiple muscles, burn new neuropathways to maximize workout gains, and increase functional and performance fitness. Complex movements within Zumba and Kickboxing classes include torso twisting which increases core strength and mobility while facilitating improved immune function. The Gymnastics and Kickboxing programs are lead by Head Coach Bernadette Nikkari who is a CanGym/GymSask Certified Level 2 Artistic Women's Coach and WAKO Canada Certified Kickboxing Coach.
I am dedicated to helping individuals of all ages move towards a higher quality of health and a balanced lifestyle. I am very highly self-driven and a great role model for others as I am continually seeking out new and exciting challenges for myself and for others. I encourage those around me to keep growing, evolving, and to be strong, healthy members of society and the universe as a whole and to reach their full potential.
I have proven my love for movement, health and fitness over the years as I have dedicated over 25 years to a wellness lifestyle. I believe that through hard work and dedication you can achieve your goals and aspirations in life. My first enlightening experience was at 17 years of age when I enlisted in the Canadian Military and attended a six week Basic training course in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, and then the following summer I was in Victoria, BC for Boatswain training; both these experiences changed my life forever. I discovered my passion of physical activity when I received the Female Athlete Award out of 100 Cadets in Army Basic Training, and began studying Physical Education at the University of Saskatchewan, completing my Bachelor of Kinesiology Degree at the University of Regina over time while working within the sports and fitness field. I accomplished many goals throughout two decades including training as an Amateur Kickboxer, competing in a Saskatchewan Amateur Bodybuilding Association competition in Women's Fitness, coaching competitive and recreational gymnastics, working as a fitness instructor for the YMCA and City of Regina, and then starting up my own fitness business in 2010. I have also been a CanFitPro and Kickboxing Canada Pro-Trainer where I taught fitness certification courses and certified instructors. I continue to train in kickboxing, gymnastics, strength training, Zumba Fitness, and cross country running and share my knowledge of fitness and wellness with others as I teach to all ages within my community.
I am a Certified Personal Trainer (through the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology and canfitpro), a Certified Fitness Leader (through SPRA), a Certified Kickboxing Coach (through WAKO Canada), A Level 2 Women's Artistic Gymnastics Coach (through CanGym/GymSask), a Pro-Trainer for Kickboxing Canada, and a Certified Zumba Fitness Instructor.
As an Early Childhood Educator (Level 2), I also enjoy working with children and have developed the SPICES Sprouts program. For a total of over 10 years I ran a daycare, piano and voice lessons, and Kindermusik. My current programs are Zumba Kids, Kickboxing/Ninja Kids, gymnastics, YOGYM Kids, and Playschool classes which all include a variety of activities for children to develop in all areas of the SPICES wheel. I believe that health begins at an early age and that it is important to offer opportunities for the younger generations to be active in creative and exciting environments.
